How LinAir Took Off…
LinAir was founded in 2018 by Jim Jacobsen, inspired by his enthusiasm for Aviation and his work in electrical engineering. After earning his CFI rating, and in addition to his current work on various aviation related software and hardware engineering projects, it was apparent that his passion was guiding him more into the aviation side of his work.
He wanted to make Aviation Great Again !
In 2013, Jim started out in Sport Aviation because it was more affordable and attainable for him. In 2014, he discovered his excitement for tailwheel aircraft – namely the Piper J-3 Cub, and he received his Tailwheel endorsement. The Cub is also in the Sport Class, so it went well with his certification and training.
Jim realized the steps it took for him to learn to fly, and with that understanding, wanted to share the gift of Flight with others who might not have thought it would be possible. Knowing that he had more work to do in order to help others, Jim began working on his Private rating, and studying for his CFI-S and Advanced Ground Instructor rating. He was proud to pass his written tests with a 98% and completed his check ride with flying colors.
He is now available as a Sport CFI for the benefit of anyone who would like to learn to fly! He can conduct ground school training and provide BFRs for any rating.
The Sport certificate is affordable and easily attainable. There is no medical required for a Sport certificate, as long as the trainee holds a valid U.S. driver’s license. There is a 20 hour minimum flight training, which saves the student extra cost, however, 30-40 is a typical average for safe and efficient flight training. There is also a written test and a practical test/check ride to earn the Sport certificate.
Sport aircraft are typically less expensive to rent, and they are also usually more advanced, fuel efficient planes.
